Biography

Dany Lartigue (1921–2017) was a French painter, entomologist, and writer. He was born on August 23, 1921, in Paris and died on June 28, 2017, in Saint-Tropez. The son of photographer Jacques Henri Lartigue and Madeleine Messager, nicknamed "Bibi," he grew up in a rich artistic environment.

Education and Artistic Career
Self-taught, Dany began painting at the age of 17, encouraged by his artistic family and his encounter with the painter Pierre Bonnard. In 1941, he held his first exhibition in Lyon. After World War II, he moved to Saint-Tropez, where he joined the circle of artists, writers, and actors in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés neighborhood.
His work, marked by vivid colors and scenes of everyday life, reflects his commitment to beauty and simplicity. He is also renowned for his lithographs depicting Parisian neighborhoods, notably the Canal Saint-Martin.

Commitment to Entomology
Passionate about entomology, Dany Lartigue founded the Maison des Papillons in Saint-Tropez in 1991, a museum dedicated to lepidoptera. This unique venue is considered a world reference in the field.
