Biographie
Guillemette Morand est une artiste peintre française née en 1913. Elle s’illustre dans une peinture figurative sensible, nourrie de scènes intimistes, de portraits et de paysages empreints de douceur et d’émotion. Formée aux arts plastiques dans un contexte où les femmes artistes peinaient à être reconnues, elle développe un style personnel, délicat, qui s’inscrit dans la tradition post-impressionniste, tout en apportant une touche de modernité dans le traitement de la lumière et des couleurs.
Elle expose dès les années 1940 dans divers salons parisiens, notamment au Salon d’Automne et au Salon des Indépendants, où ses œuvres sont remarquées pour leur finesse d'exécution et leur sensibilité poétique. Proche de certains cercles artistiques de Montparnasse, elle peint essentiellement des scènes de la vie quotidienne, des natures mortes, des paysages et des visages féminins, en quête d’une beauté simple, méditative.
Elle a exposé au Salon d’Automne, au Salon des Tuileries et a participait à l’exposition de l’Art Français Contemporain, au Musée du Luxembourg.
Le Musée d’Art Moderne conserve des toiles de cette artiste.
Ses envoies au Salon annuel des Femmes peintres, sont des plus remarqués et elle fut invitée au Salon de Mai en 1949.
Elle obtient le Prix Robert Antral en 1946.
Installée dans le sud de la France durant les dernières années de sa vie, Guillemette Morand poursuit une œuvre discrète mais profondément sincère. Elle s’éteint en 1989, laissant derrière elle une production marquée par la douceur, l’équilibre et la lumière.
Biography
Guillemette Morand is a French painter born in 1913. She excelled in sensitive figurative painting, enriched by intimate scenes, portraits, and landscapes imbued with gentleness and emotion. Trained in the visual arts in a context where female artists struggled to gain recognition, she developed a personal, delicate style, in keeping with the Post-Impressionist tradition, while bringing a touch of modernity to her treatment of light and color.
She exhibited in various Parisian salons from the 1940s onward, notably at the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Indépendants, where her works were noted for their fine execution and poetic sensibility. Close to certain artistic circles in Montparnasse, she painted primarily scenes of everyday life, still lifes, landscapes, and female faces, in search of a simple, meditative beauty. She exhibited at the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Tuileries, and participated in the Contemporary French Art exhibition at the Musée du Luxembourg.
The Musée d'Art Moderne holds paintings by this artist.
Her submissions to the annual Salon des Femmes Peintres were highly acclaimed, and she was invited to the Salon de Mai in 1949.
She won the Robert Antral Prize in 1946.
Residing in the south of France during the last years of her life, Guillemette Morand pursued a discreet but deeply sincere body of work. She died in 1989, leaving behind a body of work marked by gentleness, balance, and light.
