Paul TONDREAU (1886-1977)

Biographie

Paul TONDREAU est né à Mons en 1886 et y est décédé en 1977. Peintre et gouachiste néo-impressionniste de paysages, de vues urbaines, de natures mortes et de portraits, il sera notaire de 1911 à 1954. Il suit des cours du soir en dessin et en peinture à l’Académie de Mons entre 1906 et 1910 auprès de E. Motte et d’A. Duriau. Il représente des paysages du Hainaut, de Paris, de la Côte d’Azur ou de l’Italie et peint de façon lyrique, élégante et spontanée, avec des couleurs éclatantes ou dans une symphonie de gris. Il rapporte de ses voyages des tableaux aux tonalités chaleureuses. Il se consacre à la peinture surtout après la remise de son notariat en 1954 et il est membre puis président de l’important Cercle artistique montois « Le bon vouloir » qui lui rendra hommage l’année de son décès en 1977. Il y aura également une rétrospective mise sur pieds à Mons en 1967.

Paul TONDREAU was born in Mons in 1886 and died there in 1977. Painter and Gouachist neo-impressionist landscapes, urban views, still lifes and portraits, he will be a notary from 1911 to 1954. He takes evening classes in drawing and painting at the Academy of Mons between 1906 and 1910 from E. Motte and A. Duriau. It represents landscapes of Hainaut, Paris, the Côte d'Azur or Italy and paints lyrical, elegant and spontaneous, with vibrant colors or in a symphony of gray. He brings back from his travels paintings with warm tones. He devoted himself to painting especially after the handing over of his notary in 1954 and he was a member and then president of the important Artistic Circle of Montoison "The goodwill" which will pay him tribute the year of his death in 1977. There will also be a retrospective set up in Mons in 1967.

Schilder en gouachiste neo-impressionistische landschappen, stadsgezichten, stillevens en portretten, zal het notaris van 1911 tot 1954. Hij woont avondschool tekenen en schilderen aan de Academie van Bergen tussen 1906 en 1910 van E. Motte en A. Duriau. Het vertegenwoordigt Hainaut landschappen van Parijs, de Franse Rivièra en Italië en schildert lyrisch elegant en spontaan, met levendige kleuren en een grijze symfonie. Hij brengt van zijn reizen schilderijen terug met warme tonen. Hij legde zich toe op het schilderen vooral na het behalen van zijn notaris in 1954 en is een lid en vervolgens voorzitter van de belangrijkste artistieke cirkel Mons "De goede wil", die hem het jaar van zijn dood zal eren in 1977. Er zal ook een retrospectief opgezet in 1967 in Bergen.

Belangrijke musea: een aantal werken aangekocht door de provincie Henegouwen en de stad Bergen.
