Biographie
Roger Forissier (1924–2003) était un peintre et graveur français, reconnu pour ses paysages empreints de lumière et de sérénité. Son œuvre, figurative et poétique, s'inscrit dans la lignée de la Nouvelle École de Paris.
Jeunesse et formation
Né le 26 juin 1924 à Feurs (Loire), Roger Forissier grandit à Lyon, dans le quartier de La Guillotière. En 1942, il intègre l'École nationale des beaux-arts de Lyon, dans l'atelier d'Antoine Chartres, tout en travaillant aux champs pour échapper au Service du travail obligatoire. En 1947, il s'installe à Paris et réussit le concours d'entrée à l'École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts. Il y étudie la fresque avec Pierre-Henri Ducos de La Haille, fréquente les ateliers de Nicolas Untersteller et de Jean Dupas. Il devient pensionnaire de la Casa de Velázquez à Madrid en 1952-1953.
Carrière artistique
Forissier est l'un des fondateurs du Groupe des Lyonnais, qui se dissout en 1955. Il participe au Salon de la Jeune Peinture aux côtés d'artistes comme Bernard Buffet et Jean Jansem. Ses voyages en Hollande, Espagne, Maroc, Italie, Japon, Égypte et aux États-Unis nourrissent son inspiration. Il illustre des œuvres littéraires, dont *Le Diable au corps* de Raymond Radiguet, et réalise des fresques pour des institutions publiques.
Style et reconnaissance
Peintre de l'eau et de la lumière, Forissier privilégie les paysages, natures mortes et portraits. Ses œuvres dégagent une atmosphère sereine et poétique. Il est nommé chevalier des Arts et des Lettres, membre de l'Académie de Rabelais et président de l'association « École de Moret ».
Vie personnelle et héritage
En 1954, il épouse l'artiste peintre Nathalie Chabrier. Ils résident à la cité Montmartre-aux-artistes à Paris. En 1964, leur fille Sandrine naît. Forissier s'installe à Recloses, en forêt de Fontainebleau, où il peint jusqu'à sa mort en 2003. Une plaque commémorative est apposée sur sa maison en 2005.
Ses œuvres sont présentes dans des collections publiques, notamment au Centre Pompidou, au musée des beaux-arts de Lyon et à la Bibliothèque nationale de France.

Roger Forissier (1924–2003) was a French painter and printmaker, renowned for his landscapes imbued with light and serenity. His figurative and poetic work is part of the New School of Paris.
Early Life and Education
Born on June 26, 1924, in Feurs (Loire), Roger Forissier grew up in Lyon, in the La Guillotière district. In 1942, he enrolled at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Lyon, in the studio of Antoine Chartres, while also working in the fields to avoid compulsory labor. In 1947, he moved to Paris and passed the entrance exam for the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts. There, he studied fresco painting with Pierre-Henri Ducos de La Haille and frequented the studios of Nicolas Untersteller and Jean Dupas. He was a resident of the Casa de Velázquez in Madrid in 1952-1953.
Artistic Career
Forissier was one of the founders of the Groupe des Lyonnais, which dissolved in 1955. He participated in the Salon de la Jeune Peinture alongside artists such as Bernard Buffet and Jean Jansem. His travels to Holland, Spain, Morocco, Italy, Japan, Egypt, and the United States fueled his inspiration. He illustrated literary works, including *Le Diable au corps* by Raymond Radiguet, and created frescoes for public institutions.
Style and Recognition
A painter of water and light, Forissier favored landscapes, still lifes, and portraits. His works exude a serene and poetic atmosphere. He was named a Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres, a member of the Académie de Rabelais, and president of the École de Moret association.
Personal Life and Legacy
In 1954, he married the painter Nathalie Chabrier. They lived in the Montmartre-aux-Artistes housing project in Paris. In 1964, their daughter Sandrine was born. Forissier settled in Recloses, in the Fontainebleau Forest, where he painted until his death in 2003. A commemorative plaque was placed on his house in 2005.
