Biographie
Louis Peyré (1923–2012) était un peintre figuratif français, associé au mouvement de la Nouvelle École de Paris dans les années 1950.
Jeunesse et formation
Né le 6 mars 1923 à Campagnan, près de Montpellier et de Sète, Louis Peyré est envoyé dès l'âge de neuf ans au collège d'Ardouane, dans la vallée de l'Orb, chez les pères Lazaristes. À dix-huit ans, il entre au noviciat de Prime Combe. Pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, après s'être évadé des Chantiers de Jeunesse, il rejoint l'Armée française de la Libération et participe à la campagne d'Alsace. Après la guerre, il décide de se consacrer à la peinture et suit une formation aux Beaux-Arts de Montpellier de 1945 à 1947, sous la tutelle des peintres Camille Descossy, Georges Dezeuze et Jean-Aristide Rudel.
Carrière artistique
En 1950, après son mariage avec Louise Bonfils, veuve du peintre André Blondel, il s'installe à Paris. Là, il suit des cours de dessin, peinture, gravure et sculpture à l'école Montparnasse et à l'école de la place des Vosges. Il étudie également le modèle vivant à l'Académie de la Grande Chaumière sous la direction d'Yves Brayer. Ses œuvres, caractérisées par des tons assourdis et une touche vigoureuse, reflètent une sensibilité profonde et une recherche de simplicité.
Style et reconnaissance
L'art de Peyré est intimiste et dépouillé de recherches esthétiques superficielles, frappant directement le cœur du sujet. Ses scènes, empreintes de sensibilité, sont vivantes grâce à un dessin ferme et une touche picturale vigoureuse. Ses œuvres ont été régulièrement présentées lors de ventes aux enchères publiques, principalement en France, attestant de leur appréciation continue.
Dernières années
Après avoir vécu à Paris, Peyré s'installe à Sète, où il continue de peindre et de dessiner quotidiennement jusqu'à son décès le 1ᵉʳ février 2012. Son œuvre, riche et variée, exprime la beauté et la spiritualité du quotidien sans signe religieux explicite.
Biography
Louis Peyré (1923–2012) was a French figurative painter associated with the New School of Paris movement in the 1950s.
Early Life and Education
Born on March 6, 1923, in Campagnan, near Montpellier and Sète, Louis Peyré was sent at the age of nine to the Ardouane College in the Orb Valley, to live with the Vincentian Fathers. At eighteen, he entered the novitiate at Prime Combe. During World War II, after escaping from the Youth Camps, he joined the French Army of Liberation and participated in the Alsace Campaign. After the war, he decided to devote himself to painting and trained at the Beaux-Arts de Montpellier from 1945 to 1947, under the tutelage of painters Camille Descossy, Georges Dezeuze, and Jean-Aristide Rudel.
Artistic Career
In 1950, after his marriage to Louise Bonfils, widow of the painter André Blondel, he moved to Paris. There, he took classes in drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture at the École Montparnasse and the École de la Place des Vosges. He also studied life drawing at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière under Yves Brayer. His works, characterized by muted tones and a vigorous brushstroke, reflect a deep sensitivity and a quest for simplicity.
Style and Recognition
Peyré's art is intimate and stripped of superficial aesthetic pursuits, striking directly at the heart of the subject. His scenes, imbued with sensitivity, are brought to life thanks to firm drawing and a vigorous painterly touch. His works have been regularly presented at public auctions, primarily in France, attesting to their continued appreciation.
Later Years
After living in Paris, Peyré settled in Sète, where he continued to paint and draw daily until his death on February 1, 2012. His rich and varied work expresses the beauty and spirituality of everyday life without any explicit religious symbolism.
